Holy Ascension

In 1996, a core group of families began forming a community and gathering for reader’s services in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. A few years later, His Eminence Archbishop Dmitri of Dallas officially blessed the founding of our mission in 2000. Until 2008, we gathered in various temporary settings for worship, receiving Father John Parker as our first full-time priest along the way. When the opportunity arose to build a permanent location in the fledgling I’On Community in Mount Pleasant, the Lord quickly displayed his blessing through an outpouring of funds and open doors. Through the efforts of now-renowned Byzantine designer and parishioner Andrew Gould, as well as the generous in-kind donations and physical efforts of parishioners and members of the local community, our current building was completed and consecrated in 2008. Since then, the Lord has continued to bless us with the adornments of not only a variety of frescos throughout the walls and ceilings of our temple, but also an influx of men, women, and children who now call Holy Ascension home.
